The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) was created in Section 179 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (Act No. 108 of 1996.) The mission of the National Prosecuting Authority is lead by the Constitution to ensure that justice is brought to those victimised by crime. The NPA ensures that this is achieved without favour, fear or prejudice and executes this by collaborating with both the public and their partners, ensuring the prevention and solving of all crime.

Salary: between R198 411 and R23 0259 per year (LP-1 to LP-2)
Start date: 3 January 2022
Duration: 12 months
The National Prosecuting Authority is inviting graduates and final year LLB students to apply for an Internship position.
Interns will partake in a 12 month programme, which once completed will inclue a formal assessment to determine the competency of being appointed as a Prosecutor in South African Courts. Once candidates pass the test, they may be appointed as entry level Prosecutors in the District Courts.
The Prosecutor will then be responsible for:
- Conducting prosecutions
- Attending to all matters relating to prosecutions
- Being a gatekeeper of criminal law
- Representing public interest in the criminal justice process
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:
Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have completed an LLB degree or equivalent, with these courses (as a minimum): Law of Evidence, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Interpretation of Statutes
- OR
- Must be in the final year of LLB degree studies, with these courses (as a minimum): Law of Evidence, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Interpretation of Statutes
- Must complete the degree before starting the programme
- Must be able to work independently
- Must have a professional attitude
- Must be accountable and have credibility
