ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE APPRENTICESHIP:

South African Bulk Terminals (SABT) is a leading business unit, established in Bidvest Freight, the freight management arm of the listed Bidvest Group.
SABT operates and owns DBS and RBT, two elite bulk terminals, located in the Port of Durban. The company has over 180 permanent staff members, all skilled in the many aspects of the business. SABT has a number of training programmes, as well as close technical cooperation that has grain handling facilities overseas.
The commodities that are both imported and exported by the terminals are wheat, rice, maize, sunflower seeds, soya beans, as well as soya bean meal- used for animal feed and human consumption. RBT also exports fluorspar, which is a mineral mined specifically in the North West.
 

DETAILS ABOUT THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal
Duration: 36 months

SABT is offering a number of apprenticeship opportunities as part of its Skills Development Strategy. The programme has 6 positions available (2 within each trade) and is aimed at members of the youth who are unemployed.

The candidate will be trained in the following trades :

  • Boilermaking (Number of positions available: 2)
  • Mechanical Fitter (Number of positions available: 2)
  • Electrical (Number of positions available: 2)

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Must be a member of the youth (under the age of 35)
  • Must have completed an N2 with a relevant trade theory (must be completed/ certificated)
  • Must be unemployed
  • Must have an excellent command of the English language (written and oral communication skills)
  • Must NOT be enrolled (currently) in another internship/ apprenticeship/ work programme
  • Must be interested in technology
  • Must have a desire to become an artisan
  • Must have previous work experience (advantageous)
  • Must be able to travel to and from the workplace for the duration of the programme
  • Must be willing to partake in an assessment process prior to being selected
  • Must be willing to undergo a medical examination before employment
  • Must be able to work well in a team
  • Must have a positive attitude
  • Must be willing to learn
  • Must be physically fit
