ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE LEARNERSHIP:
The South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) was established as a public company by the Republic of South Africa Nuclear Energy Act in 1999 and is wholly owned by the State. The organisation is responsible for processing source material, including uranium enrichment, and co-operating with other institutions, locally and abroad, on nuclear and related matters for the promotion of socio-economic development in South Africa as well as R&D in the field of nuclear energy and radiation sciences.
DETAILS ABOUT THE LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMME:
Duration: 12 month
Necsa is offering a Security Training Learnership opportunity within their Security Services department, in the Nuclear Compliance and Services division. The learnership is open to unemployed youth who have completed Matric.
After completing the programme, learners will receive a recognized security qualification: National Certificate: General Security practice – SAQA ID58577 (NQF Level 03) – worth 124 credits minimum. The qualification includes these unit standards:
- NKP related unit standards including; 246693 explaining the requirements for safeguarding a National Key Point,”12484 Perform basic firefighting; 116534, Carry out basic first aid treatment in the workplace..
- Firearms related unit standards; 117705 Demonstrate knowledge of the Firearms Control Act 2000 (Act no 60 of 2000) applicable firearm related unit standards; 119649 Handle and use a handgun; 119652 Handle and use a shotgun; 119650 Handle and use a self-loading riffle or carbine; 123515 Handle a use a handgun for business purposes; 123511 Handle and use a self-loading rifle or carbine for business purposes and 123514 Handle and use a shotgun for business purposes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:
Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be between 18 and 30 years old
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be unemployed
- Must have NO criminal record
- Must be committed to completing the 12 month programme

- The selection process will include the following: written tests, interviews and a physical fitness test – candidates must pass all of these to be considered for the programme.
- The selection criteria will be conducted in terms of Necsa equity plan, Skills Development Policies and other relevant policies or plans.
