ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMME:

Zululand Anthracite Colliery (ZAC) resources were discovered in 1981 by Transnatal Coal & Utah Mining JV and developed in 1985 by BHP Billiton. Mining operations started in 1987. Prior to Menar’s acquisition of ZAC in 2016, the mine was at different stages owned by BHP Billiton (from 1985), Riversdale Mining (from 2005) and Rio Tinto (from 2011).

ZAC is the sole producer of prime anthracite in South Africa. Located in Emakhalathini, about 100 km from Richards Bay in Northern KwaZulu-Natal. The closest town is Ulundi.
 

DETAILS ABOUT THE LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Emakhalathini, KwaZulu-Natal

Zululand Anthracite Colliery (ZAC) is offering Internship positions to graduate students who would like to join the Mining Industry. Internship positions are available within these disciplines:

  • Payroll (1 position available)
  • Safety (1 position available)
  • Finance (2 positions available)
  • Human Resources (2 positions available)
  • Procurement (2 positions available)
  • Engineering (3 positions available)
  • Mining Engineering (3 positions available)

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must be a South African Citizen or naturalized citizen
  • Must have completed a qualification in one of the disciplines mentioned above
  • Must have studied at an approved tertiary institution in South Africa, which is registered and accredited with the Council for Higher Education (CHE)
  • Must have a good academic record
  • Must be a previously disadvantaged individual
  • Must be a financially disadvantaged individual
  • Must be from a designated group - as specified in the Employment Equity Act
  • Preference will be given to candidates from the areas of Ulundi, Nongoma, Ukhokho and Mahlabathini
