ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE LEARNERSHIP:
Samancor Chrome was first established in 1975 where it was listed as an entity on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange as a result of a merger between SA Manganese Ltd and Amcor Ltd. The company is the largest integrated ferrochrome producer on the globe and its main operation consists of the mining and smelting of chrome ore. Samancor Chrome annually produces 2.4 million tons of ferrochrome which is used globally for different aspects of stainless steel and smelting processes. The Samancor Eastern Chrome Mines (ECM) is located in the Steelport Valley which is located just outside of Johannesburg and along with the Bushveld Igneous Complex. ECM consists of three underground mines, two opencast mines, four surface beneficiation plants, as well as four tailings re-treatment plants.
DETAILS ABOUT THE LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMME:
Location: Steelport, Limpopo
Duration: 36 months
Samancor Chrome Mines is offering an Engineering Learnership opportunity to external candidates. This programme is aimed at individuals wanting to obtain a qualification in engineering fitter, boilermaker, diesel mechanic, electrician, instrumentation, or auto electrical trade.
All training for the programme will be conducted via SETA Accredited Training Providers and the programme will run for a maximum duration of 36 months.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:
Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- Must have completed one of these qualifications:
- Matric/ Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science as subjects
- NATED NTC 2 Certificate or higher
- Level 4 NCV Certificate from a FET College
- Must have completed these 4 subjects: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Relevant Trade Theory and Engineering Drawing
- Must have obtained a minimum of 40% for Mathematics and Science
- Must be medically fit
- Must have Engineering/ Operative experience (advantageous)

Please note:
- All applications are to be signed and approved by the recognized Tribal Structure.
- Shortlisted candidates will be selected in accordance with the minimum requirements.
- Candidates will be required to undergo psychometric assessments.
- Candidates will be required to engage in a panel interview.
- Consideration will be given to attaining the objectives of the mining charter.
- The number of candidates chosen from each Tribal Structure will be determined by the company's social labour plan commitments.
