DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Locations: Johannesburg, Gauteng
Duration: 12 months
Number of positions available: 5

The Mail & Guardian is offering editorial internship opportunities to 5 young graduates. The internship will take place at the Johannesburg newsroom, commencing in April 2022 and finishing in March 2023.
 

Interns will receive a general grounding in digital newsroom processes and editorial production skills. They will also be assigned to one of these areas: Online, multimedia and social media, Arts, Climate and General News.

The aim of the programme is to nurture the passion and potential of young people who are interested in a career within journalism and the media industry. The programme will provide interns with a solid foundation in the fundamentals of the craft.
 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must have completed a qualification in any of these fields: Journalism, Languages and Liberal Arts, Graphic Design, Sound and Video Production, and Website Development
  • Must be interested in pursuing a career in journalism and the media industry

M&G have published a weekly newspaper since their first edition in 1985, and in 1994 they became the first news organisation in South Africa to launch a website.
