DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:
Location: Bryanston, Gauteng
Digby Wells Environmental is offering a Mine Closure Internship opportunity to suitably qualified graduates. The intern will provide assistance with carrying out mine closure liability assessments and developing mine closure strategies and plans. The intern will also be required to identify and calculate mine closure costs.
Interns will be required to perform the following duties:
- Develop mine closure strategies, plans, policies and procedures.
- Carry out a gap analysis on the client’s mine closure strategy and provide a report on the findings.
- Provide advice and guidance to the client in terms of the implementation of the mine closure plan.
- Effectively carry out project administration on closure related projects using the organisation’s methodology and principles to ensure that the projects are delivered on time, within budget and against our quality standards.
- Develop and implement mine closure project plans, in consultation with client, to guide decommissioning and restoration/rehabilitation activities.
- Calculate mine closure costs that satisfy regulatory requirements as well as provides a management framework for our clients to manage the costs of construction and operational phases of the mine.
- Conduct audits and reviews in terms of the client’s mine closure plans and assessments.
- Evaluate and monitor the mine closure plans throughout the various stages of the mine life.
- Develop alternative mine closure measures to remediate the impact of the selected mine development.
- Build and maintain relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
- Carry out Business Development and Marketing initiatives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

- Must have completed a BSc. Engineering or Environmental Science or similar
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be computer literate
- Must have excellent Microsoft Excel skills
- Must have excellent organisational skills
- Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Must have strong analytical problem solving skills and experience
- Must have strong numerical skills
- Must be able to work independently
- Must be able to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Must be accountable
- Must be able to build and maintain a strong network of relationships
- Must pay close attention to detail
- Must be customer-orientated
- Must have good time management skills
- Must be able to meet tight deadlines
- Must be able to manage and deliver on multiple projects and tasks running concurrently
- Must be willing to travel internationally
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
- Must be willing to obtain other vaccinations that may be required by clients and for travel purposes
- Advantageous: MSc. Degree
- Advantageous: certificate in GIS
- Advantageous: experience with Model Maker Systems
