DETAILS ABOUT THE TRAINING PROGRAMMES:
Locations: KwaThema, Tsakane, Duduza and the immediate surrounding areas in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng
Gibela Rail Transport Consortium is offering 13 training programmes to unemployed students in KwaThema, Tsakane, Duduza and the immediate surrounding areas in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. The technical and business skills training opportunities are offered in collaboration with training implementation partner, ITS Education and Training Institute. The Training Programmes are sponsored by Gibela, and will commence in May 2022.
TECHNICAL SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMMES:
Duration: 4 to 9 weeks (Technical skills training programmes)
Available in the following sectors:
- Electrical wiring
- Cabinet Making (Carpentry)
- Pipe fitting
- Plumbing
- Solar installation
- Spray painting
- Vehicle-body building
- Welding
The purpose of these programmes is to enable learners to develop competencies in a range of knowledge and skills of a specific industry and operate within the legislative, safety and quality systems, which govern the workplace in at least one of the aforementioned streams.
SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMMES:
Work-readiness training:
Duration: 5 Days
This training programme will enable learners to improve their workplace communication skills, problem-solving, critical thinking, understanding of ethics and compliance in a professional environment, and be able to apply health and safety principles and procedures in the workplace.
Entrepreneurship training:
Duration: 10 Days
This Programme offers opportunities to all unemployed South Africans residing in the abovementioned areas, who are looking to start or develop a new business.
The purpose of this programme is to equip the learner with the necessary knowledge and skills to apply principles and practices of innovation to the development and growth of a new business.
Practical tools to manage a business (BusSmart™):
Duration: 3 Days
This Programme offers opportunities to all business owners and entrepreneurs residing in the abovementioned areas, who are seeking to develop practical skills and obtain tools to manage a business successfully.
Learners will be able to strategically plan their business processes, manage people and apply the basics of financial management.
Community development training (Community Smart™):
Duration: 3 Days
This Programme offers opportunities to all community workers residing in the abovementioned areas, who are seeking to develop practical skills and tools for effective Community Development.
Learners will gain the knowledge and practical skills on how to manage community development projects, thereby improving community structures and the well-being of community members.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

TECHNICAL SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMMES:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be currently unemployed
- Must reside in one of these areas: KwaThema, Tsakane, Duduza and the immediate surrounding areas in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng
- Must have preferably completed Matric
- Must have NOT participated in any previous Gibela sponsored training programmes
SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMMES:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be currently unemployed
- Must reside in one of these areas: KwaThema, Tsakane, Duduza and the immediate surrounding areas in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng
- Work-readiness training programme: must have completed Matric
- Entrepreneurship training programme: must have completed Matric
- Practical tools to manage a business (BusSmart™) programme: must be a small business owner or interested in starting a business
- Community development training (Community Smart™) programme: must be involved in the startup or running of a community project
- Must have NOT participated in any previous Gibela sponsored training programmes

Gibela Rail Transport is majority owned by Alstom, a French multinational rolling stock manufacturer operating worldwide in rail transport markets.
Gibela was formed in 2013 as a black economic empowerment (BEE) company, the Gibela Rail Transport Consortium, which was awarded a R51-billion contract with the South African government to manufacture 600 trains for the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).
