ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:
The Banking Sector Education and Training Authority (BANKSETA) assists in transformation of the broader banking/micro finance sector and skills development. BANKSETA aims to alleviate unemployment by providing individuals with partnership and skills development opportunities.
Owing to skills development being recognised as a major need in South Africa, BANKSETA puts their attention on youth/adult education, SME'S and continuous professional development and research.
DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:
BANKSETA is providing a 1 year Cyber Security internship for an unemployed candidate under the age of 29 with a NQF-7. On examination success, the intern will gain 1 years work experience; International Certifications in CompTIA Security and Ethical hacking.
Location: Centurion, Gauteng
Key Responsibilities of the Programme:
- Implementing, developing and updating security controls and measures
- Training staff in security awareness
- Within the IT network and systems, assessing the IT security and risk posture
- Assessing risks and vulnerabilities
- Implementing/recommending anti-malware software / security tools
- Protecting and securing digital file and information systems from unauthorised access / tampering
- Monitoring security access whilst providing technical support
- Reporting on findings and recommending actions to correct them
- Regularly perform external and internal security audits
- Determining, maintaining and adapting procedures and polices of corporate security
- Coordinating of security measures with external contacts
- Finding the causes of security breaches
- Communicating with management about possible security vulnerabilities
- Analysing/monitoring/creating/modifying and updating Intrusion Prevention System (IPS); Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Security Information; Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and rules
- Communicating with authorities regarding any identified cybercrime perpetrators
- Maintaining records of incident response activities and security monitoring
- Reviewing/Analysing important event detail summary information to recognise potential compromises as well as successful and unsuccessful intrusion attempts
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:
Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid SA ID
- Age requirement: under 29 years old
- Education requirement: must have completed a 3 year Diploma / Degree: IT (Computer Science); Systems Support; Network Engineering; Network Support; Communication and Networks (or any other relevant fields)
- Must be unemployed
- Must have a clear criminal record and ITC
- Must NOT be involved in any other studies / learnership or internship
- Must be passionate and interested in Cyber Security
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must have strong attention skills
- Must have knowledge about the cyber threat landscape and information security concepts
