DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal
Duration: 12 months

Africa Health Research Institute is offering an Asset Controller Internship opportunity to Finance/ Accounting graduates who would like to gain experience working in the industry.
 

Duties of an asset controller:

  • Making use of standard accounting practices to record and track all transactions related to the company's physical assets (as well as tagging or labelling of the items and maintaining the database of the register of these assets).
  • Recording depreciation, any other assets entries and may represent the organization in any audits related to these fixed assets.
  • Conducting timely physical verifications/counts to validate the accuracy of their records.
  • Able to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times.

Roles and responsibilities of the programme:

  • Recommend any updates to accounting policies related to fixed assets, to management
  • Create and assign QR codes (asset labels) to fixed assets
  • Ensure all asset additions are tagged timeously
  • Record fixed asset acquisitions and disposals in the accounting system
  • Process depreciation for all fixed assets
  • Maintain the fixed asset register on AHRI asset database and SAP
  • Identify and investigate any obsolete assets
  • Conduct physical inventory counts of fixed assets and reconcile to the asset register
  • Recommend whether fixed assets should be disposed of based on physical inspections, to management
  • Conduct analysis related to fixed assets as requested by management
  • Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets and assist the auditors in their inquiries
  • Locate all assets per the fixed asset register
  • Conduct constant updates to the asset register and record keeping for changes in asset locations
  • Liaise with all departmental staff to ensure proper asset control and management
  • Assist in other administrative and support areas as and when required

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must have completed a 3 year tertiary qualification in Finance or Accounting
  • Must have previous experience as a Fixed Assets clerk, or a similar position
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must have experience working in MicroSoft packages: Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Must have experience in inputting information into an ERP system (such as SAP, or another accounting/ asset software)
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be an independent self-starter
  • Must pay close attention to detail
  • Must have a strong sense of integrity
  • Must be able to maintain accurate and confidential records
  • Must be able to organize workloads
  • Must adapt quickly to change
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to work well in a team
  • Must be able to work responsibly and reliably with internal and external colleagues
