CapeTownMagazine.com, as its name suggests, is a Cape Town based online magazine. The magazine has a reader base of between 300 000 and 500 000 people, of which 1/3 are international readers and 2/3 are Capetonian readers.

Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
Duration: 6 months

CapeTownMagazine.com is offering a Social Media Internship to candidates who are passionate about social media and the online sphere. Candidates are invited to join Cape Town's most exciting online magazine and learn invaluable industry skills to further their career and passion.
 

CapeTownMagazine is looking for candidates who are bright, ambitious digital and social media savvy, proactive, driven, go-getting and forever evolving and aspire to enter the digital industry. If you are a "social media geek" that spends a lot of time on social media, enjoy playing around with design, video, tools and apps and has a visual eye, you should certainly apply.

The 6 month internship programme will include the candidate working with a small group of dynamic and dedicated individuals, who are committed to making “Discoveries” – this includes discovering restaurants, parks, accommodation spots and creating resonating content about them.
 

Interns will work under the guidance of senior editors in the content team, and will take part in the following duties:

  • Creating, scheduling and publishing content on social media accounts
  • Curating social media feeds
  • Creating, scheduling and publishing push notifications
  • Community management
  • Organising the Weekend Takeover Program
  • Partaking in brainstorming sessions
  • Pitching new ideas (discoveries)
  • Providing support to the editorial team and business teams
  • Producing content (from events to features)
  • Assisting on partner projects
  • Assisting with feedback reports (capturing stats)
  • Conducting research, fact-checking and updating overviews and put together new overviews
  • Conducting interviews, researching and collect accurate information for overviews and features
  • Sourcing photos and videos
  • Editing pictures using image editing software
  • Learning and incorporating SEO best practice into the articles
  • Learning and mastering the content management and production systems

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must have good English copy writing skills or interest
  • Must be keen to work in digital media and marketing
  • Must be keen to learn copywriting for different social media platforms
  • Advantageous: may have photography skills/ producing reels
  • Must be good at researching, sourcing and curating social media feeds
  • Must be passionate about digital, social media and social media tools
  • Must spend a lot of time on social media and have excellent knowledge of various social media platforms
  • Must have your own personal social media accounts
  • Must be organised and systematic
  • Must be willing to learn and evolve
  • Must be willing get out of your comfort zone
  • Must be curious and love to discover
  • Must have a positive attitude
