Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering Cosmetics Retail Learnership opportunities at various stores across South Africa. There are limited positions available for candidates with Matric and a passion for beauty, cosmetics and sales. Learners will be placed in the cosmetics department, where they will receive training to become Cosmetic Sales Consultants.
Learners will have the following during the programme:
- Assisting with the loading and off-loading of stock and unpacking stock as it arrives.
- Handling all merchandise carefully to prevent any losses.
- Providing friendly, helpful and courteous assistance and advice to all customers.
- Demonstrating products through, makeovers, cosmetic demonstrations, spray promotions or activities.
- Advising customers but not forcing customers to change their preferable brand.
- Maintaining expired and damaged stock by adhering to stock rotation processes and procedures.
- Assisting with the counting of stock files and general stock taking when needed.
- Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, merchandising and displays must be maintained in both the window area and throughout the store.
- Presenting displays in an attractive manner.
- Ensuring full ranges of products are on the shelves at all times.
- Reporting low stock levels, items that are out of stock, damaged stock and expired stock to management.
- Ensuring that out of stock queries from customers are followed up with the customer service out of stock list.
- Marking merchandise and maintain displays according to Dis-Chem standards.
- Reporting all price discrepancies to management.
- Processing payment at a Cosmetic Department Point of Sales (POS).
- Implementing promotional activities according to business needs.
- Resolving customer queries or complaints.
- Working towards achieving sales targets for different vendors and brands within the Cosmetics Department.
- Keeping up to date with in-depth knowledge regarding existing and new products, brands and the retail industry.
- Ensuring bookings for Salon appointments are made correctly.
- Taking responsibility for all cosmetics, fragrances and beauty house promotions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:
Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have completed Matric/ Grade 12
- Must have achieved minimum of 50% for Mathematics Literacy
- Must have a passion for the cosmetics and beauty industry
- Must be computer literate
- Must have experience working in Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Must have a clear criminal record
- Must have a clear credit record
- Must be willing and able to work retail hours
- Must be fluent in English – able to read, write and speak the language
- Must have basic Financial Skills
- Must have a good understanding of customer needs
- Must have persuasive communication skills
- Must have good interpersonal skills and committed to customer service
- Must be able to work well within a team
- Must have excellent time management skills
- Must be honest, reliable and trustworthy
- Must be a creative thinker
- Must be target and deadline driven
- Must be able to work under pressure
- Must have close attention to detail
- Advantageous: fluent in a second Additional Language
- Advantageous: able to understand stock reports and sales
- Advantageous: SAP experience
- Advantageous: previous working experience within the retail industry
- Advantageous: valid driver’s license and your own reliable transport

ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE LEARNERSHIP:
Dis-Chem was formed in the year 1978 by recently qualified pharamacists, Ivan and Lynette Saltzman, when they opened their first retail pharmacy in Mondeor, Johannesburg, South Africa. In 1984 the second retail pharmacy opened at the Randridge Mall in Randburg, Johannesburg.
It wasn't until the late 1980s that Dis-Chem started expanding its offering of non-pharmaceutical products and opened a third retail pharmacy. Today, Dis-Chem prides themselves on offering healthy foods, sport supplements, health and well-being products, and beauty products.
