Impendle Local Municipality is offering 2 Finance Internship opportunities to graduates looking to gain financial experience within a local municipal environment.
This programme was created under an initiative by the National Treasury with the main aim being to establish sufficient strategic management capacity at a Local Government level. During the programme, candidates will receive training to enter into a career in Local Government Finance.
Candidates will be required to undergo a training programme developed by the National Treasury exposing them to all aspects of Local Government.
Key performance areas of the programme:
- Implementing financial management reforms and the municipality finance management act
- Engaging in financial administration (general)
- Completing aspects of procurement administration
- Engaging in liability administration
- Managing the treasury
- Engaging in payroll reconciliation
- Ensuring financial systems are prepared
- Reporting and submitting various finance returns
- Managing the budget
- Reporting to the General Municipality Environment
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:
Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- Must have completed a Bachelors of Commerce or National Diploma majoring in Accounting, Financial Management, or Law
- Must be computer literate with proficiency in all aspects of MS Office
- Must be fluent in English and isiZulu
- Must have excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills
- Must be highly motivated and dedicated
- Must be eager to learn
- Must be an analytical thinker
- Must have excellent presentation skills
- Must NOT have any previous accounting experience

Impendle, a small town, was founded in 1948 and is located in the Umgungundlovu District in KwaZulu-Natal. It is one of 7 municipalities within the district and is near many local tourist attractions, such as an access route to the Southern Drakensburg. Not only is the area near this major site, but Impendle is also rich in topography, climate, and soil with a diverse natural environment. The municipality is home to many high-density settlements and villages such as Gamone, KwaNovuka, Similobha, and Kamensi.
