ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:
Magareng means “in the middle” in Setswana. As such, this municipality is located in the middle of other surrounding towns in Kimberly, primarily that of Warrenton. Warrenton is located along the banks of the Vaal River, 75km from Kimberly. After the discovery of diamonds in Kimberly in the 1800s, Warrenton supported this area by producing and providing vegetables. Soon after, diamonds were found in Warrenton too and thus a huge demand for the mineral grew. Mining only stopped in 1926 and Warrenton was established as a municipality in 1948. Warrenton got its name from the 1976 Cape Colony commissioner, Charles Warren who fought in the Anglo-Boer War and was an Administrator of Griqualand West.
The Magareng Local Municipality is an administrative area within the Frances Baard District of the Northern Cape in South Africa.
