ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:
The National Gambling Board (NBG) was created in accordance with the terms of the National Gambling Act, 2004. The NGB's main responsibility is to be in control of the oversight and regulation of the gambling industry in South Africa, as well as ensure integrity is maintained.
The main objective of the NBG is to ensure growth and suitability in its regulatory capability to ensure South Africa is in a pre-eminent jurisdiction condition with an extraordinary and sufficiently regulated gambling industry.
DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:
Location: Centurion, Gauteng
Duration: 12 Months
Salary: R12 000 per month
NGB is offering a legal internship position to a lucky candidate. During the internship, the individual will provide the NGB with legal support services pertaining to negotiating and vetting contracts, drafting legal correspondence, providing legal advice/options, and general drafting. The candidate will also provide assistance in legal advice with policies, legislation, inter alia, and statutory matters given to Supply Chain adjudication committees
Key Performance Areas of the Programme:
1) Assisting with drafting contracts:
- Providing assistance with the drafting of contracts that enter NGB
- Providing assistance with research on contractual risk/ legislative provisions that are applicable
- Providing assistance with the aim of assessing and reducing contractual legal risk
- Providing assistance with scrutinising and drafting contracts for NGB employees and consultants
- Provide assistance with drafting and scrutinising International Agreements
- Providing assistance with contractual functions such as Memoranda of Agreements/ Understanding, SLA, and Strategic Partnership Agreements
- Providing assistance to clients with consultations
- Providing assistance with creating and recognising new Pro-forma
- Reviewing current Pro-forma contracts
- Assisting and making sure contracts are legally certified, and that the necessary authority has been given for entry into the contract
2) Assisting with the vetting of contracts:
- Providing assistance in the vetting of all contracts that enter NBG
- Providing assistance in vetting all binding agreements that enter NBG (Memorandum of Agreement/Understanding and Strategic Agreements)
- Providing assistance to clients with consultations
- Providing assistance and researching any contractual risks/ legislative provisions
- Providing assistance and assessing contractual legal risk minimisation
- Providing assistance and ensuring that all bidding agreements and vetted contracts are certified for legal certainty and that the necessary authority is given for entering into the contract
3) Assist with drafting legal opinions:
- Providing assistance in the drafting of legal opinions pertaining to NGB
- Providing assistance in research for all the legal, applicable principles
- Provide assistance in client consultations
- Providing assistance with opinions on concluded contractual matters/ as they relate to contract management
- Providing assistance and opinions on statutory issues
- Providing assistance with PAJA matters and PAIA requests
- Provide opinions on internal appeals pertaining to PAIA and PAJA
- Providing assistance and ensuring all contracts are legally certified
4) Assist with legal advice on policy, statutory matters, legislation, and contracts:
- Providing assistance with the drafting of legal advice on statutory matters, policy, contracts, and legislation
- Provide customers assistance in consultations
- Provide research on legislative provisions that are applicable
- Providing assistance and advice on the significance of statutory matters, contracts, compliance with policy, and legislation
- Provide assistance by guaranteeing all legal advice on legislation, policy statutory matters, and contracts are legally certified
5) Assist with legal advice to Bid Specification Committee (BSC) and Bid Adjudication Committee (BAC):
- Providing assistance by the means of legal advice to BSC and BAC with the aim of assist members to conclude decisions for each procurement
- Providing assistance and attending BAC and BSC meetings
- Providing assistance by consulting members on legal issues matters for each procurement
- Providing assistance by ensuring compliance is met with SCM, PFMA, and PPPFA policy
- Providing assistance by ensuring that bidding agreements and vetted contracts are legally certified whilst also ensuring the relevant authority has been given for each procurement
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

- Education requirement: must have completed a Degree in Law
- Must have high attention to detail
- Must have excellent research skills
- Must be fluent in English (oral and written)
- Must have excellent record-keeping skills
- Must be a good negotiator
- Must have excellent communication skills
