ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:
The JB Marks Education Trust Fund was created by the National Union of Mineworkers in 1997. The aim of this was to empower graduates (consisting of members and their dependents) who were entering the mining/ related sectors.
JB Marks gets its name from John Beaver Marks, who was a leader in the mineworkers’ struggle against exploitation. John Beaver Marks was an advocate of education, believing it should be used as an empowerment tool that could aid in the fight against poverty.
JB Marks Education Trust Fund helped 53 beneficiaries in their first year and has expanded; in 2017 it becomes a 100% self-administered fund
The Vision of JB Marks Education Trust Fund is to change society by the means of education. They believe that with this, caring, resourceful and confident citizens will be created.
Their Mission is to ensure that their bursary programme is sustainable and creates opportunities that allow for individuals who were not granted the opportunities to improve (owing to socio-economic circumstance) to tap into their fullest potential.

DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:
Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng
JB Marks Education Trust Fund is offering an internship opportunity to young graduates for the position of MIC Intern in the Enterprise Development (ED), Marketing and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) sectors. During the programme, the candidate will report to the Senior Investments and Project Manager as well as provide them with assistance in marketing functions as well as running the MIC ED and CSI development programme. Candidates will also be required to provide assistance to the development team with research, composing reports and gathering data for these reports.
Outputs of the programme:
- Ensuring reports are made on the CSI/ ED Programme
- Making necessary website copy and edits
- Marketing collateral copy
- Ensuring that you monitor and report about the CSI/ ED programme
- Conducting research related to investments and reporting
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:
Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- Must have completed one of these qualifications: Degree in Social Science (Honours Degree or higher) OR BCom Degree General Bachelors OR Science Degree General
- Must be computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Must have excellent numeracy skills
- Must have an excellent command of the English language
- Must be flexible and willing to work overtime
- Must be willing to travel (if necessary)
- Must be highly organised
- Must be able to plan effectively
