The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health is offering a training programme to candidates interested in pursuing a career as a Nurse within the Medical sector. This 3-year training programme aims to allow candidates to gain valuable practical skills and knowledge relating to the sector, thus aiding them in establishing their careers.
Upon successful completion of the programme, the candidate will obtain an NQF-6 (Diploma) in Nursing (SANC Regulation: R171, SAQA ID: 115826, Total credits: 368).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:
Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- Must reside within KwaZulu-Natal
- Must be unemployed
- Must have NOT previously benefited from the department of Health bursary system at the KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing
- Must NOT be registered for studies elsewhere
- Must NOT be receiving any other source of study funding
Candidates who Matriculated before 2008, must have achieved a minimum of:
- "E" higher grade of "D" standard grade for English
- "E" higher grade of "D" standard grade for Biology/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Physiology
- "E" higher grade of "D" standard grade for Mathematics
Candidates who Matriculated in 2008 and after 2008, must have achieved a minimum of:
- Diploma Pass (70%) or above on your National Senior Certificate
- Minimum overall score of 25 points according to the NSC rating:
- 50-59% average (Level 4) for English
- 40-49% average (Level 3) for a Home language/ first additional language
- 40-49% average (Level 3) for Mathematics / 60-69% (Level 5) for Mathematics
- 50-59% average (Level 4) for Life Science/ Physical Science
- 50-59% average (Level 4) for Life Orientation
- Any other 2 subjects

- Life Orientation is a mandatory subject that must be scored at a Level 4 or above. Life Orientation will, however, not be included in the overall scoring system.
