Lancet Laboratories has been operating in South Africa for more than 60 years as one of the county's leading private pathology centres with its main office located in Johannesburg. The company not only operates in the private healthcare environment, but also offers services in specialist pathology to the mining, insurance, and corporate sectors. Lancet processes over 1.8 million tests a month and as well as offers many pathology services such as molecular and cytogenetic investigations as well as advanced chemical analyses.
 

DETAILS ABOUT THE LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMME:

Locations: KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo, Northwest and Mpumalanga
Duration: 24 months

Lancet is offering learnerships opportunity to candidates for the role of Student Phlebotomy Technician, at various branches across the country. The aim of the programme is to develop the candidate's values, skills, and knowledge within the medical pathology environment. The candidate will work a 42.5 hour work week and will be given a monthly stipend.

Candidates will be required to collect specimens and draw blood from all patients and donors, and attend theory and practical training learning programmes during this learnership. Once the candidate has successfully completed the learnership programme and HPSCA board examination, they will then have the opportunity to register with HPSCA as a qualified Phlebotomy Technician. The candidate will then be able to seek professional employment in medical pathology laboratories and donation organisations.
 

Key Performance Areas of the Programme:

  • Ensuring that all capillary and venous blood and non-blood specimens are collected for donation and medical purposes
  • Ensuring that housekeeping procedures are followed according to the safety protocols and relevant legislation
  • Attending all formal training programmes, such as practical training, lectures, and submission of assignments
  • Ensuring that your write and pass the Health Professional Council (HPCSA) board examination
  • Meeting all the contractual obligations of the learnership programme
  • Ensuring that you apply all principles of customer care and proudly represent the organisation

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must have achieved a minimum “D” symbol for Mathematics, English, and Biology in Matric
  • Must have a Bachelors of Science qualification (advantageous but not essential)
  • Must have 0-1 years work experience
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must have a knowledge and an understanding of Phlebotomy processes and procedures
  • Must be able to work with patients who are in distresses or nervous
  • Must have strong administrative skills
  • Must have high attention to detail
  • Must have a passion for customer care
  • Must be empathetic, flexible, professional, and patient
  • Must be a lateral thinker
  • Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive information
