ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE LEARNERSHIP:

As the first gold mine in the world as well as the location where South Africa first discovered gold, Barberton Mines was founded. Barberton Mines has been operating for over 100 years along with the Consort, Fairview and Sheba Mines. These mines produce around 2 tons of gold each year and hold a commendable safety record.

Barberton Mines can be found in a small town located in Mpumalanga and is about 40 km from Mbombela, and 360 km from Johannesburg. With the town being built in 1884, the discovery of gold only helped the settlement develop further and quicker because of this new 'mineral rush.' Barberton was then the new centre of fast development in mining all during the creation of the then-Transvaal’s first Stock Exchange in 1887. However, after the discovery of gold in Witwatersrand, mining slowed and scaled-down in Barberton.

Today, only the larger mines remain open in Barberton with their team celebrating their 3rd Million fatality-free shift as of June 2020. Today, Barberton still remains one of the highest-grade and oldest mines in the WORLD.
 

DETAILS ABOUT THE LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMME:

Locations: Barberton, Mpumalanga
Duration: 6 months

Barberton Mines is offering a learnership opportunity to a candidate to take on the role of a Winding Engine Driver in the Engineering/ Mining industry. The aim is to allow the candidate to gain work-exposure to Winding Engine Driving. This learnership is a great and unique opportunity for the candidate to gain practical skills as well as learn about crucial business competencies.
 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Education requirement: must have complete Matric (NSC) with Pure Mathematics and Physical Science
  • Work experience requirement: 3 years as an experienced Onsetter
  • Must have an Onsetter Competency certificate
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must be medically fit and healthy
