DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:
Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
Duration: 6 months

Open Streets Cape Town is offering an Internship opportunity to candidates with a passion for making a change in society. During the 6 month programme, candidates will aid the organisation in creating work that will change the streets and public spaces for people. The candidates will partake in several events and activations across Cape Town as well as training, networking, development, and activism. The candidates will receive an internship stipend and travel allowance during the programme.
Key performance areas of the programme:
- Assisting with the planning and implementation of the organisation's Activation Days
- Engaging with the community, mapping, on-site data collection, and survey work
- Supporting project work by drafting communications and social media
- Providing support to ongoing campaigns and advocacy efforts
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:
Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- Must have basic Graphic Design skills
- Must have excellent visual literacy
- Must be energetic
- Must be enthusiastic
- Must have a passion for the Open Street movement
- Must have an interest in urbanism
- Must have an interest in sustainable mobility
- Must have an interest in citizen-led movements
- Must have excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Must be highly organised
- Must be able to work well independently
- Must be able to work in an innovative environment

Please note:
- The candidate will be expected to partake in the programme for 16 hours a week for 6 months.
- During this time, candidates will engage in an in-office contact time for 3 days a week.
- The internships will commence on 3 May 2022.
ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:
Open Streets Cape Town (OSCT) was founded in 2012 and registered as a non-profit organisation the following year. OSCT works to challenge society and its views on the “streets.” The organisation works on campaigns, dialogues, temporary interventions, and research to raise awareness, spark a public debate, and promotes a behavioral change around the role of streets in the life of the city. Today, OSCT is working to create interventions and programs that promote spatial justice, citizen engagement, and active mobility.
