ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:

The Western Cape Government is one of South Africa's many provincial governments. These provincial parliamentary governments each select a Premier to be head of the executive. The role of the Premier of the Western Cape is to ensure that the cabinet of provincial ministers is lead to oversee various executive departments. All rulings, law, and order of the provincial government are done in accordance with the Constitution of the Western Cape and the Constitution of South Africa- forming a supreme law of the province.
 

DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Western Cape
Start date: 1 July 2021

The Premier's Advancement of Youth (PAY) Programme is an internship opportunity aimed at matriculants. The programmes main objective is to provide candidates with necessary work experience within the Western Cape Government (WCG) by the means of future career decision-making, mentioning, exposure to skills training and development, as well as on-the-job training. The programme is offered annually as a Matric First Work Experience PAY Internship Opportunity.

Students will gain on-the-job training within one of the 13 Western Cape Government Departments:

  • Department of Agriculture
  • Department of Community Safety
  • Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport
  • Department of Economic Development and Tourism
  • Department of Environmental Affairs & Development Planning
  • Department of Health
  • Department of Human Settlements
  • Department of Local Government
  • Department of Social Development
  • Department of the Premier
  • Department of Transport and Public Works
  • Provincial Treasury
  • The Western Cape Education Department (WCED)

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Must reside within the Western Cape
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 24
  • Must have written and passed the NSC Matric Exams in the Western Cape in 2020
  • Must NOT be planning to study further in 2021
  • Must NOT have or require a support network to help you make career choices
  • Must need financial aid (must be from a household with an annual income of R350 000 or less)
  • Must NOT have any work experience

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE INTERNSHIP POSITION:

Candidates can apply by registering on the South African Youth Network

Once you have registered, you will then be able to apply for the position

Please note:

  • All candidates' NSC certificates/ other documentation will be verified within the Western Cape Education Department
  • Applicants will only be selected once they have undergone a security check (this includes taking the candidates fingerprints)
  • It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that they have an open bank account
  • It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that they have a registered tax number with SARS
