ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE LEARNERSHIP:

SAFCOL (South African Forestry Company SOC Limited) is a state-owned forestry company under the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) and is the third-largest within the country. SAFCOL operates within Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Mozambique and Mpumalanga, with its business activities rooted within the forestry industry.

SAFCOL's learnership programmes aim to educate and equip candidates with knowledge of the industry and award them with a full qualification upon successful completion of the programme. Full-time learnership opportunities at SAFCOL run for 8 to 12 months (depending on the nature of the programme) and the programmes that are available are in areas of Forestry, Furniture Making, Processing, End-User Computing, and Community House Building.

The training at SAFCOL takes place at the Platorand Training Centre as well as at other external training providers. For the programme, all external candidates receive the necessary tools and equipment, training material, daily lunch, a monthly stipend, and protective gear.
 

DETAILS ABOUT THE LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMMES:

Location: Sabie, Mpumalanga
Duration: 12 months

SAFCOL is offering an NQF-3 Silviculture Learnership Programme to unemployed youth, who are interested in a career in Forestry. This formal 12-month programme will consist of both practical and accredited theoretical training and will take place at the SAFCOL training centre (Platorand) located in Sabie, Mpumalanga.

During and after the programme:
During the programme, candidates will enhance their skills and knowledge of the industry (thus preparing them for future employment within the field) as well as receive a monthly stipend.

Upon successful completion of the programme, the candidate will obtain a nationally recognised certificate - an NQF level 3 General Education and Training Certificate Silviculture.
 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Must have completed Matric/ Grade 12
  • Must be unemployed
  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years old
  • Must be passionate about forestry and the environment
  • Must be able and willing to work outdoors
