DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Ngodwana, Mpumalanga
Duration: 2 years
Contract Type: Fixed-Term

Sappi Ngodwana Mill South Africa is offering a Mechanical Engineering programme. During this 2 year compressive programme, the candidate will enhance their knowledge and skills as well as become a proficient maintenance/ project engineer at the company. The candidate will report to the Mechanical Maintenance Manager during the programme.
 

Key Performance Areas of the Programme:

  • Engaging in practical work as per Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) standards
  • Providing assistance in the designing of tools and machinery for industrial and manufacturing use
  • Providing advice on steam internal combustion as well as other non-electric engines and motors that are used for driving industrial machinery
  • Providing assistance on the design of mechanical plant and equipment for the purpose of control, release, and utilisation of heating, energy, heating, and refrigeration pumps, systems, valves, pipework, and other associated mechanical equipment
  • Providing assistance on the design of precision instruments and non-electrical parts of apparatus
  • Ensuring that control standards and procedures are established, ensuring efficient safety and functioning of machines, motors, machinery, engines, tools, industrial plant, systems, and equipment
  • Ensuring that equipment maintenance and operation are in line with the safety standards and design specifications
  • Investigating and solving machinery, plant, and tool equipment related problems
  • Actively contributing to designing new equipment specifications or using complex machines, fluid systems, HVAC systems, energy systems or pressure systems
  • Rotating through the mill, providing operational support to engineers in every section
  • Learning how the plant operates by participating in plant forums, engineering meetings, and multi-disciplinary team meetings, as well as contribute professional advice
  • Recommending solutions to failed and under-performing equipment in the plant
  • Analysing current plant design against the health and safety requirements, design specifications, ease of fabrication, constructability, maintainability, assembly standards, ergonomic considerations, environmental requirements, alternative solutions, and life cycle costs
  • Providing assistance during machine start-ups and plant shuts
  • Providing assistance to engineers with project management activities, such as project scoping, business case development, scheduling, resourcing, and implementation

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

  • Must have completed a BSc, Beng or BTech Eng qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must have little or no working experience
