DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Pretoria, Gauteng
Contract duration: 1 year

The SARB Academy is offering a Graduate Development Programme/ Internship to suitably qualified postgraduate candidates. The programme is aimed at productive and talented individuals and will start in January 2023 and end in December 2023.
 

During the programme, the candidate will be exposed to many departments of the SARB. The candidates will be located at the SARB Head Office in Pretoria and will engage in various projects and roles in their assigned departments.

During the programme, the intern will partake in learning interventions at the SARB Academy. The purpose of these interventions is to expose the candidate to aspects of central banking and create professional bankers. The candidate will also acquire skill such as reporting, presentation, teamwork, etiquette, business disciplines, and personal excellence (just to name a few.)
 

After completing the programme, some graduates may be offered permanent employment at SARB. Candidates will be appointed based on:

  • An interest in pursuing a career at the SARB
  • Desire to contribute to monetary policy, financial stability, currency management, supervising financial institutions, financial markets, or one of the SARB’s enabling functions
  • Behaviours aligned to the SARB’s values of accountability, excellence, integrity, respect and trust, and open communication
  • Ability to function independently and contribute actively and effectively in a team
  • Exceptional performance in their assigned departments and academically

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Must have completed a postgraduate degree in any of the following fields: Accounting, Auditing, Business Analysis, Econometrics, Economics, Economics and International Relations, Financial Management, Information Technology, Law, Mathematics, Modelling, Policy Analysis, Portfolio or Investment Management, Project Management, Public Finance, Quantitative Analysis, Research, Risk Management (Operational and Financial Risk), Statistics, Treasury
  • Must have attained a minimum average of 65% in your final year of study
  • Must have a history of excellent academics
  • Must be passionate about policy-making and financial services
  • Must be curious and committed to learning
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must have excellent interpersonal

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) was established in 1921 and is the central bank of South Africa. SARB ensures that financial stability and price for South Africans are maintained through a service of good economic well-being. SARB's other responsibilities are designing/distributing banknotes/coins, regulating the South African financial sector, ensuring the cash reserve requirements are set for the bank, management of interest rates, and ensuring continuous stability of this.
