ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE PROGRAMMES:

In Saldanha Bay, 1964, Pescanova, a Spanish-owned fishing company caught interest in a fishing village on South Africa's West Coast. Saldanha Bay is situated close to the cold Benguela current that has a perpetual supply of fish. This proved to be a fruitful fishing ecosystem, especially in WWII. Pescanova, along with other fishing bodies then formed Sea Harvest.

Sea Harvest's purpose is deep sea trawling of local Hake and packaging the fish into frozen products which can then be distributed locally and internationally. Owing to technological expertise, within the first year of opening, Sea Harvest had production that used high-end processing equipment and techniques. Sea Harvest was also was South Africa's biggest automatic refrigeration installation within their first 12 months of production.

In 2008, the South African consortium purchased Sea Harvest, lead by Brimstone Investments and Kagiso- a Cape-based empowerment company. This purchase made Sea Harvest South Africa's biggest empowerment company in the fish industry.

Today, Sea Harvest operates and owns 42 vessels, including a number of trawlers used to catch and process fish, most notably the Cape Hake. Sea Harvest still stayed true to their roots in Saldanha Bay and today they are the single largest employer to that municipality and it's surrounding areas.

Sea Harvest has been labelled as a national asset, contributing to half of commercial fisheries income in South Africa. Annually, they launch projects across all sectors to help in the preservation of the fishing habitat. They pride themselves conserving the environment, supporting the ecosystem all while strengthening their companies longevity.
