DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:
Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape
Duration: 12 months

Stellenbosch University is offering an internship opportunity, hosted by the Centre for Student Counseling and Development (CSCD). The candidate will assume the role of Intern Psychologist at the Unit for Academic Counseling and Development. Through this programme, CSDC aims to provide the candidate with assistance in creating an individual programme for approval with the Health Professionals Council of the country. The programme will officially commence on 1 January 2023.
Key performance areas of the programme:
- Ensuring that all students and scholars(Grade R- 7) are provided with psychological services, this includes psychometric assessments, career development counseling, academic counseling, and psychotherapy
- Presenting workshops
- Ensuring psychological reports are compiled
- Facilitating intake interviews
- Ensuring administrative tasks are completed
- Partaking in both individual and group supervision
- Engaging in case presentations
- Engaging in research that supports casework
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:
Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- Must be enrolled in/ completed a Master's programme in Educational Psychology
- Must have completed a Masters level module in Career Counseling
- Must have knowledge and experience in a narrative approach to career counseling
- Must have a scientific approach to developing skills in students
- Must know the Children's Act No.38 of 2005 and how to utilise it
- Must have knowledge and experience in therapeutic interventions relating to younger children and their parents
- Must have experience in organising and managing group work sessions
- Must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Intern Psychologist in Educational Psychology
- Must have excellent computer capabilities
- Must be able to work under pressure
- Must be able to work well within a team
- Must be able to follow a work schedule
- Must have work experience within a multi-disciplinary professional team (advantageous)
- Must have excellent proficiency in English and another additional South African language (advantageous/ preferable)
