DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal
Duration: 2 years
Salary: R100 000 per annum

The Ubuhlebezwe Municipality is offering a Municipal Finance Management Internship opportunity to recent graduates who are interested in a career in Local Government finance.

The Internship programme is the initiative of the National Treasury, which aims to help build sufficient strategic management capacity at Local Government level. A training programme is being constructed which will expose interns to all facets of Local Government financial services.
 

Interns will be required to fulfil these duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform basic accounting functions.
  • Interpret finance legislation & policies.
  • Process invoice payment from the capture and verification of the source documents.
  • Manage the interface between the department payroll and accounting system.
  • Undertake budget controls on expenditure and revenue.
  • Oversee expenditure management reconcile grant.
  • Be trained in all sections of the Budget and Treasury Office.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must have completed Grade 12/ Matric
  • Must have completed a B Com Degree or National Diploma with majors in either of these fields: Accounting and/ or Auditing (or a relevant 3-year tertiary qualification)
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must have good interpersonal skills
  • Must have good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Must be willing to learn
  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Must be highly dedicated and motivated

The Ubuhlebezwe Municipality (KZ5a5) is located within the Harry Gwala District Municipality (DC43). The main administrative centre of the Municipality is the town of Ixopo, which is located approximately 85km south east of Pietermaritzburg, capital of KwaZulu-Natal, and is strategically located at the intersection of four major provincial routes leading to Pietermaritzburg, the Drakensberg, the Eastern Cape and the South Coast.
