ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:

The Constitutional Court Trust (CCT) was established after the country's transition into democracy. The main purpose of the CCT is to promote the rule of law, human rights, judicial independence, and constitutionalism in the African region, focusing mainly on the Constitutional Court of Southern Africa. CCT achieves this by promoting the expression of art, providing legal scholarships as well as exchange programmes, library initiatives, and public education.
 

DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng
Duration: 6 months
Contract Type: Full-time

The Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA) is offering a cultural internship opportunity at the Constitutional Court Trust- the programme will commence from July to December 2021.
The programme is aimed at recent South African graduates interested in justice in South Africa and Visual Arts. During the programme the candidate will be paid a stipend and have the opportunity to work on the Constitutional Court Art Collection (CCAC) at the CCT.

The aim of the curatorial internship offered at CCT is to enhance learning opportunities within the following fields:

  • Curatorship
  • Administration
  • Cataloguing
  • Research

 

Key performance areas of the programme:

  • Providing assistance with the rotation of artworks within private areas of the court and the public gallery
  • Ensuring that records relating to artworks are maintained and organised
  • Contributing to quarterly reports
  • Ensuring that artworks are cleaned and organised on display and in storage
  • Ensuring that research and web stories about artists whose pieces are part of the CCAC are conducted and drafted
  • Participating in public engagement activities (such as tours with Court staff and guests, monthly Art and Justice tours, and exhibition openings)
  • Providing assistance with in-house conversation work
  • Performing tasks and research relating to the care of artworks

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Must be under 30 years old
  • Must have completed a qualification in Visual Arts, Heritage or equivalent
  • Must be a recent graduate
  • Must NOT have prior full-time work experience
  • Must NOT have previously benefited from an internship opportunity (advantageous)
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must be able to commit to the full duration of the internship
  • Must have a passion for art and justice
  • Must be interested in advancing constitutionalism by the means of creative expression
  • Must have knowledge of how to handle museum material and artefacts carefully
  • Must be physically fit
  • Must be highly organised and show the ability to strategically plan
  • Must be able to work well independently and within a team
  • Must have a systematic work approach
  • Must have high attention to detail
  • Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office and InDesign
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must be professional
  • Must have excellent research and writing skills
  • Must have a willingness to learn
