ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE TRAINING:

The Western Cape Provincial Treasury plays a major role in achieving the desired socio-economic and governance outcomes of the Western Cape by providing strategic financial leadership to the Western Cape Government provincial department, its public entities and municipalities.
 

DETAILS ABOUT THE TRAINING PROGRAMME:

Location: Western Cape
Duration: 3 to 4 years
Salary: market related salary

The Western Cape Treasury Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA) is offering accredited training within the public sector, to prospective chartered accountants. Training is provided through Provincial Treasury, as apposed to traditional audit firms.
 

About the training programme:
The CAA aims to reinforce academic education, as well as help develop business acumen, professional and ethical values.

The CAA programme is an intensive full-time internship programme, with a commitment to a 3 or 4 year contract, which will take place at Treasury’s offices in Cape Town. Trainees will be rotated to any of the departments and municipalities, or training partners within the Western Cape to give trainees exposure to other areas.

Trainees will gain the following:

  • valuable public sector experience
  • intensive knowledge of the public sector financial systems and processes such as the PFMA and MFMA
  • skills that enable you to become chartered accountants within the public sector
  • 3 to 4 year professional training programme that has been structured in a manner that grants the trainees exposure in key areas of management, decision-making and control experience by rotation to the various divisions of provincial and local government

 

Western Cape Government employees will need to resign from their current positions if they are accepted to the academy.

After completing the programme, successful trainees would have completed the work related aspect of qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, which is certified by SAICA.
 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must be in your final year of study towards one of these qualifications: Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA, Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) or B.Com Accounting Honours
  • OR
  • Must have completed a SAICA accredited undergraduate degree
